René Gainville

Biography

René Gainville was a Hungarian-born French film director, screenwriter, and producer. Born René Jacques Froc de Géninville in Budapest, he moved to Paris after World War II and began his film career. Gainville directed films such as Le démoniaque (1968), L'homme de Mykonos (1966), and Le complot (1973), which depicted the Organisation armée secrète's efforts during the Algerian War. He was married to actress Edith Vignaud, known by her stage name Anne Vernon. Gainville's films often explored political and social themes, characterized by their intense narratives and attention to detail.
